The Future of Marketing Coaching...
HOT NEW PROFESSION!

By Mary Gardner, President/CEO, Coaches Certification Institute

As a former exclusive celebrity agent, I have seen the business change a lot in the past 15 years. When I first promoted and booked the biggest names, fees considered high would now be considered average. The booking was based on which agent had the best pitch! For marketing, we sent out a celebrity bio sheet. If the celebrity name was right, there was not much need for references.

The speaking industry has evolved from sending out bios, to slick color glossies on presentation folders containing references until there were enough speakers who invested in video brochures that videos became the industry standard along with much higher fees.

I recently returned from a national conference on the business of professional coaching. In a workshop on the future of coaching, I mentioned the profession of the speaking industry, how it developed into a sophisticated level of video demos and other materials, and my belief the coaching profession will become as professional in their marketing as the speaking industry. In the future, corporations will hire coaches on a regular basis wand will give their employees a choice of approved coaches previously selected via video.

The individual leading the workship firmly disagreed with me stating that coaching was about making the personal connection one-on-one. While that is true, the amount of professionals that add 'coaching' to their list of services will eventually create competition. With any profession, the best will rise to the top and will market their services accordingly.

Today, people still ask, "What is a coach?" In 2 to 3 years, people will not ask WHAT, but "WHO is your coach?"

I believe the successful coaches will have to live lives worth emulating, and will look and act in a way that is in unison with their words. They will be productive professionals, successful at relationships, physically fit, and spiritually mature. I believe a Master Coach or Professional Speaker is successful at life. Smart marketing or not, that fact will never change.

"Mary Gardner's enthusiastic and engaging style can turn an ordinary motivational coaching session into something along the lines of being in the locker room with Lou Holtz at half-time down by 7..."
